Good Morning Trinity,

Wow, what different circumstances this Wednesday Devotion and Announcements find us in. For as long as I’ve been sending these out to you, which has been close to 10 years, we’ve never known things around us to be as they are today. Not that this is a doomsday message or one that tells us to hide our heads in the sand. Far from it. I believe this coronavirus, Covid – 19, or whatever pet name you may be calling it, is giving us an opportunity to do the Lord’s work in ways we never thought of before.

You may recall these scripture readings, Deuteronomy 31:6 “Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the LORD your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.”

Hebrews 13: 5 – 6 Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” So we may boldly say: The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me.

I have one more that I will share with you because it is one of my favorites and one that I go to when I need the assurance that our Lord is always with me. David wrote this when he was in the wilderness of Judah.

Psalm 63: 1 – 8 “O God, You are my God; I shall seek You earnestly; My soul thirsts for You, my flesh yearns for You, in a dry and weary land where there is no water. Thus I have seen You in the sanctuary, to see Your power and Your glory. Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, my lips will praise You. So I will bless You as long as I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name. My soul is satisfied as with marrow and fatness, and my mouth offers praises with joyful lips. When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You in the night watches, for You have been my help, and in the shadow of Your wings I sing for joy. My soul clings to You; Your right hand upholds me.” When you think about how “God’s right hand upholds me,” remember also that His left hand shows the way. I believe the main theme of these and many, many scriptures is for you to understand that the Lord will not bail out on us when times get tough. We are much more likely to bail on Him.

I would like to leave you with these words of advice. First of all, turn off the news. We all need to be informed, but we don’t need to be force fed 24 – 7. They are feeding your fears at a time when you need to be feeding your faith. Can you imagine the faith people would have if they spent as much time in God’s word as they do listening to the news. Imagine the reduced tension in their lives.

I believe that one of the outcomes of this virus will be that some people will realize how little control they have in life. We are a self-reliant society and many have no need for the Lord because we have everything we need. The perfect family, perfect home, perfect car and the perfect job. But some will be surprised at how easily it can all be taken away. I pray that many will re-examine their life and turn that self-reliance into a Christ-reliance. The question then is this. Will you be ready to help them or will you be stuck in your own fears.

God Bless,
Pastor Dave
